Tooth Whitening

Having white teeth is the number one aesthetic concern of most dental patients today. Tooth whitening is both a safe and effective way to achieve a beautiful, white smile. You can have a smile that sparkles by getting your teeth whitened at Dr. Gilbert’s dental office.

Why Do I Need Tooth Whitening?

Over time, things like food, drinks, and cigarette smoke can form layers of film on top of the natural layer of enamel on your teeth. As more and more layers collect, they eventually mix with your enamel. Enamel is porous so it absorbs stains from whatever you put into your mouth. These stains are usually harmless, but most people do not find them attractive and therefore will choose options like tooth whitening.

What Causes Tooth Staining?

  •     The natural color of your teeth
  •     The thinness and translucency of your teeth
  •     Eating and drinking habits
  •     Various chemicals and medications
  •     Teeth grinding
  •     Trauma and injuries
  •     Aging
  •     Smoking

How are Teeth Whitened?

Presently, one has 3 whitening options at Dr. Gilbert’s office.

1.) “Opalescence Go” whitening trays with pre dispensed bleach (15% hydrogen peroxide) worn 15 minutes to 1 hour per day.

2.) Custom fit trays and syringe bleach by  Opalescence (35% carbamide peroxide) worn for 30 to 60 minutes.

3.) In house “Boost” whitening where you will see immediate results followed by a set of the “Opalescence Go” trays to follow up at home after your in office appointment.

Does Tooth Whitening Work?

Almost everyone who undergoes professional tooth whitening will see results and improvements in the brightness and whiteness of their teeth. The results will vary from person to person, and can be increased or decreased by your own eating, drinking, and oral hygiene habits.

How Long Does Tooth Whitening Last?

Tooth whitening is not permanent. Maintenance requires touch-up treatments at Dr. Gilbert’s office and proper daily care. Dr. Gilbert will instruct you on how to properly care for your teeth to keep your beautiful, white smile lasting as long as possible.
